Joss, the funny

Ganz cooles Interview mit Joss über Dr. Horrible und Dollhouse:

Q. Nathan Fillion and Neil Patrick Harris in an Internet musical in which the lovable loser baddy is kind of the good guy, and the good guy is kind of a dick—and it's a musical?! Um, how? Wha? How on earth did this develop?

A. Who is to say who is the villain and who is the hero? Probably the dictionary. But I know that people who grow up identifying with outsiders are the people I are. Plus singing is the universal language, along with being on fire.

...etwas Firefly-Nostalgie:

Q. In my dreams I traverse great depths and voids of unnamed space and find myself in a netherworld where untold numbers of Buffy and Firefly props are just laying around and I can just take them back to my apartment and mount them in the sweetest little shrines. What Buffy/Firefly props have you held onto as personal mementos?

A. I have a life-sized Sean Maher made of human flesh that keeps screaming that it's the real Sean Maher and I should unchain it. Amazing technology!

Q. Some fans have already launched a campaign to save Dollhouse from fickle network programmers who cancel everything that doesn't have enough fart jokes. Other fans see these organizers as casting a desperate light on Dollhouse since it hasn't even aired yet. Do you have a stand?

A. I love the effort, but do think it tends to put us in the cheap seats.

Unser imdb-Maulwurf schlägt wieder zu!

Es sieht gut aus:

Hi , Ok , Dollhouse is a go ! . We start load in / Prep Wednesday the 16th aqnd begin shooting the following Wednesday , August 23 . SAG needs to put the last , best and final offer from Producers to a vote....they don't want to because they know it would be ratified and the leadership would have egg on its collective face . There is little worry of a strike as they would need 75% of the voting membership to confirm a strike action so they need to let their membership vote on the last offer . In any event , Dollhouse will begin on schedule and I for one am looking forward to working the show .Wish us Luck !!

Ich nehme an, er/sie meinte Juli. Also, 23.

"We're so busy talking about the giant Broadway adaptation, the much longer film version and the much longer musical commentary we're writing now, but...yeah, have I thought up the sequel? Yeah, sort of. And the one after that? Little bit. Actually, what we want to do is a sequel right away that's brilliant and then maybe another one many years later that's terrible."

The audience loved it, and for good reason.

Television Critics Association besucht Dollhouse

Ende Juli, laut dem "schedule for the Summer 2008 Television Critics Association Press Tour":

Tuesday, July 22

SET VISITS
Morning visits to the sets of “Pushing Daisies” and “ER” at the Warner Bros. lots. Afternoon visit to the set of “Dollhouse” where both Joss Whedon and Eliza Dushku will give tours, then cocktails on the New York bar set with the cast of “How I Met Your Mother.” Both afternoon sets are on the Fox lot. For people needing to catch planes, there will buses returning to the hotel after the morning events, and we’ll be taking head counts as we get closer to see if we need buses running from the Fox lot to the Beverly Hilton after the first event there.

Expect Berichte then!

Noch ein Dr. Horrible-Review

Da drüben:

It’s impossible to compare Dr. Horrible to other independent web productions, because while it emulates the style of low-budget amateur, it’s doing so with professional resources: When a project is shooting on studio backlots and has VFX house Zoic Studios (Firefly, Battlestar Galactica) creating its effects, it’s hard to embrace it as guerrilla. But at its core, Dr. Horrible is a story of transformation, beginning with a hero who isn’t quite yet heroic, and a villain who hasn’t yet achieved true villainy. Perhaps there’s a metaphor there in the constantly evolving state of online video: A place that’s fun to play, but eventually demands real commitment.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Sacrifice

Buffy am DS? Well, wo bleibt die Wii-Version?!

Cynthia Littleton:

The first thing I noticed about the Internet musical created by the brothers Whedon -- Joss, Jed and Zack and Jed's fiance, Maurissa Tancharoen -- was how fabulous it looks. No YouTube grainy-blurry here, thanks to the talents of director Joss and d.p. Ryan Green.

The second thing I noticed about the production was ... nothing because a few minutes in to Thursday night's screening of the 40-minute program at CAA, I was thoroughly engrossed. Gotta hand it to Joss and Jed for their skill in penning the tunes, which really make "Dr. Horrible" work as a tuner.

Der THR-Bericht erwähnt auch die Dollhouse-Frage:

And a "Dollhouse" musical? "I rule out nothing," Whedon joked.

Bei whedonesque gibt's auch Erfahrungswerte:

Quick points of interest:

Joss joked (I know, impossible to believe, isn't?) that he funded the movie with Girl Scout cookies.

NPH said, completely un-egotistically, that he still listens to the songs on his iPod.

Joss mentioned there will definitely be a soundtrack.

Felicia said she got an email from Joss asking if she was interested in doing this. She said it read, "Can you sing? -j." (Cute.)

Joss mentioned there's plans for more comics than just the one online.

He also said the difference with the Buffy sing-along and this was this was a whole new idea and didn't have Buffy tie-ins to work with (you know, 'cause they were right in the middle of a season).

Lastly, he said that he loves musicals because everybody is happy (and singing).

Und als Schlusswort Joss:

"If this is just my mid-life crisis -- it's the most awesome one imaginable," he said, with feeling.

Und ein Widegt gibt's auch

Schick!

Michael Boretz über Dr. Horrible

Der mir unbekannte Michael Boretz, Produzent von Dr. Horrible, gibt Einblicke:

“Everything had to happen in two weeks, two to three weeks tops, so we started thinking of the crew we liked to work with,” Boretz said, “And we pulled in a lot of favors. A lot of people worked for a way reduced amount or nothing.” Why was everyone so willing to give up their time? “Can you think of a better thing to do with your life?” Boretz asked.

Seeing him work that way inspires everyone else, Boretz said. “He’s at the top of his game, so you have to be at the top of yours. You can’t deliver less. You get a lot of surly, negative people on movie sets – screamers – but his sets are always fun and enjoyable. The people he attracts are good people, and wicked talented. So you’re the best you can be. Even if you’re supposed to be evil. You’ll try to be the best damn evil person you can be.”

Wie verspoilt is Dollhouse?

How pre-spoiled is it? 3. There's already a trailer and an officially released clip, which give a fair amount of the show's backstory away. Creator Joss Whedon would like people to go in understanding the show's basic format, because it makes his job easier. So you'll probably at least know that Echo (Eliza Dushku) is a mind-wiped puppet who can be programmed to have any personality or skillset for paying clients (or "pro bono" gigs), and an FBI agent is investigating this illegal operation. Any plot twists beyond the first half hour of the pilot are shrouded in mystery.

How much do people care? 9. It's Joss Whedon, man! The only reason it's not a 10 is because the premise seems to leave some people cold.

This pretty much sums it up.

Yay for Dollhouse!

The Cabin in the Woods wurde gegrünleuchtet

The Cabin in The Woods sei "the horror movie to end all horror movies... literally." und Goddard wird dabei sein Regie-Debüt angehen.

Hammer-Comic

Nettes Interview zum Tie-In:

Did you envision a comic tie-in from the beginning?

No, not really or not realistically at least. We have the power to envision a great deal and the power to create very little, hence my plain non-Dr. Horrible jammies. So we may have envisioned a comic alongside the lunch boxes and inappropriately-awarded Oscars and so forth, but until Joss and Dark Horse talked, it didn’t become real in my head.

Ich hab nachgefragt, turns out:

I will be on the crew barring an actors strike . The Pilot took seven days to shoot . The studio bought the pilot and agreed to 7 locked and 13 total episodes and it waqs deceided that 4 of seven pilot shooting days ( more than half) of the pilot be need to be re-shot . This usually means that they re-cast with that much of a re-do but who knows . The same Camera/ Grip / Electric departments shot the pilot so they liked the look of the show and the Director of Photography ( Ross Berryman lat of Ugly Betty ) or we would not have been asked to do the show run . Locations, used on the pilot may not be available for the series , etc ,etc....

Actual shooting is to begin on July 21st so we would need 2 weeks to prep / load trucks / scout locations /rig stages , pasically a full season load -in . If AFTRA ratifies the new contract ,and since this show is governed by AFTRA contract for actors we have a good shot if the ratify it . Results should be in on Tuesday July 8th...cross your fingers.

In any event , I hope it goes for a long time . If they do the full 13 it will shoot through Christmas and begin airing as promised in January 2009....seems far away don't it??

Everyone should keep up the VERY POSITIVE BUZZ.....

Oh well, das beurteilen fällt uns Laien natürlich schwer.

Heute gibt's also News bezüglich der Länge, es heißt also dran bleiben.

MTV interviewt Joss über alles

Aber auch über Dollhouse und Dr. Horrible:

“Dollhouse” — Whedon once swore off doing another show on FOX after “Firefly,” but come January, he’ll return to the network with “Dollhouse,” which has several Buffyverse alumni in its cast and crew, most notably Eliza Dushku as the show’s star, Amy Acker (Fred on “Angel”) as a recurring character, and Steven DeKnight (as a writer). “I tried not to make “Dollhouse” a family reunion,” Whedon said, “but I reluctantly read Amy, I realized I was the biggest idiot alive. I mean, how can I not have them come back? Have you seen them act?”

The pressure of returning to episodic television is bearing down on Whedon, though, since he’s again realizing that compared to comics, he has to keep to a tight schedule (he once famously delayed a few issues of “Fray” because of his work on “Firefly” — for about a year). Not that he doesn’t take his comics deadlines seriously, but if he has to skip a month’s issue, so be it — “It’ll just be that one month, and one month only, and never again,” he promises. “But we don’t have that luxury on TV. ‘Oh, yeah, you can come out a week later.’ Everything has to be taken care of. We just have to cowboy up and get it done.”

Which is all to say that despite the reunion factor, it’s not just “Joss’ friends having a goof,” as he puts it. “Which is what I do want people to think about Dr. Horrible.”

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog — Speaking of which, the trailer is now online for the webisodes, airing July 15, 17, and 19. More on this project to come, but for now, suffice to say that this was a labor of love. “In some cases, you work with people you know, and they’re reunions, and in some cases, they’re just the people I hang out with,” Whedon said, “so we decided to do something other than go get food.”

Over the course of six days during the Writers’ Strike, Whedon, his brothers, and some friends put together a three-part musical starring Neil Patrick Harris as a supervillian trying to get into the Evil League of Evil. Nathan Fillion plays his superhero nemesis, and Felicia Day (former Slayer potential Vi) as the girl he likes at the laundromat. “You want to work with people you love and trust,” Whedon said. “That’s the theory. It’s not radical, but it’s mine.”

Noch ein Joss-Interview zu Dr. Horrible

Sehr fein:

Whedon - (...) It’s about 40 minutes, in three acts, and was designed to be just your typical internet, superhero musical.

Prodigeek - What defines the typical internet, superhero musical?

Whedon - I don’t know, I’ve never seen one. It’s supposed to define the typical superhero musical, by being the first one.

Teil1 | Teil 2

As far as airing in January ,We do not begin shooting Dollhouse until mid July. The pilot is all that exists at the moment .I understand they want to re-shoot 4 of the 7 days of the pilot as well beginning July 21st with production of Episode 2 beginning after that .

Pretty pessimistic stuff, huh?

Chinglish
