Sorry für den Ausfall gestern, zur Entschuldigung gibt's Entkräftung der Gerüchte, Schüren von neuen, nämlich dass der Trailer von Buffy the Animated Series aufgetaucht ist, Versüßung der Blu-Ray-Firefly-Geschichte mit dem Gerücht, dass Serenity auch nachkommt, und schlussendlich auch das Bringen von dem, worauf ihr alle am meisten gewartet habt: Dr. Horrible: The Pony Edition

Angeblich hat wer "Echo" in der ursprünglichen bevor-zur-zweiten-Folge-geänderten Form geleaked. Tatort: London. Ich bleibe dran, und warte auf Beweise.

Stalking Joss Whedon wäre eine, ne?

In my case, I'd had a stupendously rough week, and Dr. Horrible served as a kind of tonic for my soul, its songs and its characters becoming somehow emblematic of my own troubles and sorrows. Dr. Horrible, as corny and cheesy as it sounds, somehow made me feel less alone during a dark and lonely hour of my life.

And then it got a little weird.

Are you coming down on the side of nurture in the whole nature/nurture debate? Are we just shaped by our conditioning? Are our bodies just hardware that you can run any software on?

First of all, thank you. No-one's ever asked that question. I mean it. And second of all, nature versus nurture is something I've spent a lot of my life thinking about. And I've always been a nurture guy. I've always felt, "You're shaped by your environment, and the terrible, terrible things that your perfectly reasonable parents do to you." And then I had children, and they came out very much themselves. There are definitely things I can do to mess them up, and I'm doing my best, but they are who they are.

And I think Dollhouse... I will never answer your question, by the way. Dollhouse is the question. I've said before: Movies are an answer, TV shows are a question. Because if you give a definite answer, what the hell is your next episode about? My feeling is, there's a lot of both. Nuture is the key, but nature is interesting. And there is something innate within us, that can overcome what we've been saddled with. My wife is an amazing example of somebody who should not be as cool as she is, but could not help herself. So I've definitely learned that there are two sides to it, and that's what I want to explore with Dollhouse.

It's about something who — there is no nature. They've wiped out her personality. So she has to create her own. But she has the will to do that. They have not gotten rid of that. That's the key to the whole show. It explains what I'm about, it explains Eliza [Dushku], it is Echo defining herself with no parameters. With no nurture, and no real nature, to fall back on. Who am I? So I'll be answering your question, with any luck, for the next seven years.

But imagine, if you will, your favorite filmmakers creating their own short series—whatever they can imagine—without somebody in an expensive tie and bad hair gel telling them, “I don’t get it.” If any of the results are as fun as Dr. Horrible, then I say bring on the new paradigm. Memorable: Als Josh Friedman (eh schon "uncomfortable" mit Summer und Joss letztes Jahr bei der Comicon...) Summer gleich zu Beginn fragt, wer besser aussieht, er oder Joss, und sie "It's obvious." antwortet.

THR: What was the response like to streaming it for free?

Whedon: The free thing kinda threw some people. We wanted to say there is another way, just not to the studios, but to the people doing the Internet. It's not your cat falls off a TV set or "Ben-Hur," there is something in the middle.

Und zu den Dollhouse-Webisodes und den Comics:

THR: How will the 13 webisodes of "Dollhouse" be different from the series? Will they be interstitials or stand-alone episodes?

Whedon: We're talking about both. We're still feeling our way around that; I'm still feeling my way around the show. I think ultimately what we'll end up with is arcs because that's the easiest way to do it.

THR: Any "Dollhouse" comics planned?

Whedon: I talked to ("Buffy" comics publisher) Dark Horse, and "Dollhouse" has got some adventure and suspense and thrills. I know they have a "CSI" comic, but I don't read it. (Laughs) I believe that you need a reason to be in a medium and you have to respect what that medium is for, and I just don't see "Dollhouse" as doing that.

THR: As for the "Buffy" Season 8 comics, are you going to be writing more or is your role shifting more toward oversight?

Whedon: I'm finishing the Fray arc and then a couple of other people are stepping in. I have a plan to do one more arc before the end of the season, although I'm looking at that with a cold eye and thinking maybe I should just oversee that because I'm late with an issue.

And sometimes juggling everything is easier just because you get in this awesome mind space where you can just click from one thing to another -- and that should kick in any minute - but since it hasn't, I am struggling with all the different things that I have going on right now, including the movie (MGM's "Cabin"), which I'll be producing at the same time as I'm doing "Dollhouse" and whatever I have to do with "Dr. Horrible" and "Buffy."

Von all den Set-Besuchen der letzten Zeit ist der hier der spannendste:

Usually sets are built on the floor level, but this set — which is the office of Adelle DeWitt (Olivia Williams), the manager of the "Dollhouse" — is elevated so that they can shoot a floor-to-ceiling skyline through the windows. The dollhouse itself, which is a sort of dormitory/office complex for the "actives" — including Eliza Dushku's Echo — is all underground, and Adelle's office is the only part of it that is above the ground.

Zu Adelles Office:

Interestingly, Adelle's desk is facing away from the door and toward the windows, so that her back is to the door. "I didn't want to do the standard, come-before-me- and-my-desk thing," Joss said. "I found it interesting that she would be the kind of person who wanted to look at the world rather than into her own space. Also, it means that if you enter the room, she doesn't have to look at you, which is a power play."

But though you can see Adelle's computer screen when you enter her office, you cannot see the widescreen monitor in a niche to the left of her desk, on which she can observe everyone in the dollhouse. "Adelle is — she's not ruthless; she's ruth-deficient," Whedon quipped about the character. "She could use a little more ruth. She's pretty tough, but luckily she's British, so … somehow everything she says is nice."

Robots? Zombie-Slaves? Oh yeah.

Next, we visited the coed showers that all the actives use, prompting Eliza Dushku to do an impromptu stroll through so that we could see just how much of her we could see through the shower walls (answer: not much).

Although Whedon and the reporters joked about the titillation factor, the showers do have a metaphorical raison d'etre. "The whole point about this environment is that it's completely innocent, as somebody said, 'a garden of Eden,'" Whedon said.

He continued: "Actually, amazingly enough, we were just going to build them for the pilot, and they keep turning up in episode after episode. Those wacky writers! Sometimes for a very good reason, because as innocence starts to fall away, other things start to become noticeable. The more they interact on that very childlike level, the more we can then corrupt them." He added jokingly, "And America!"

We visited the actives' dormitory next. It's a circular room with five sleeping pods sunken into a slate ground, and the Zen-like decor softens the creepiness of the coffin-like sleeping arrangements. Each one slides shut with a plexiglass cover so that when the actives are asleep, they're basically put away — like dolls, of course.

Whedon said that he wanted to create "something that was a little womb-like, a little coffin-like, and a little bit like no matter how free they feel coming and going into the dollhouse, in essence they are completely trapped."

Unter anderem über das dritte Firefly-Comic A Shepherd's Tale:

I've done a breakdown of the story. I think Jim Krueger is going to write the actual script. The biggest mystery of what we never got to tell is Shepherd's backstory. Everybody knew there was something more than just being Shepherd in there. And poor Ron [Glass] came to me during the strike and said, "I'm going to another convention. You've got to give me something." It's been a number of years and they always ask [about Shepherd]. I said, "You know what, it has been long enough and this isn't something I'm going to save for the sequel that may never happen, so we'll make a comic book out of it."

Because it's an interesting story, really. It's the single most-asked question: "What's up with Book?" And now we're going to answer that.

Derzeit und noch hoffentlich lange soll sie aber bei Dexter bleiben, bitte. Dort ist sie einfach zu wichtig.

Tim Minear hat ja beim wunderbaren Wonderfalls mitgewerkt, und der ständig unterschätzte Bryan Fuller, Erschaffer von Wonderfalls und dem gerade ABC unsicher machenden Pushing Daisies (für das er auch Doug Petrie für die zweite Staffel an Bord geholt hat), hätte gerne einen Crossover:

Mary Ann Marie Beetle, a character from the “Muffin Buffalo” episode of “Wonderfalls,” will turn up in a season-two episode of ABC’s “Pushing Daisies,” series mastermind Bryan Fuller told the ComicCon crowd Saturday.

Fuller, who created both "Daisies" and "Wonderfalls," said he’d love to have “Wonderfalls” central character Jaye Tyler turn up on “Daisies” as well.
